Get Hooked on a Book

Our Book Club Discussions are held on the Second Thursday of each month at 5 pm.
Stop by the library to complete a contact form and get the titles of our next reading selections.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

Blind Date with a Book

If you'd rather not choose a book based on its cover, select one from several that are featured each Winter.  Read, review, and return the book for a chance to win a small gift.  We love our patrons.  This program happens in January and  February in conjunction with Valentine's Day.  A current library card is required for check outs.

Children's Programs

StoryTellers
We read weekly on Wednesday mornings at two local daycare centers, and at the library on Thursdays at 5:00pm. We restarted our Spring schedule on Thursday, January 25th with a Special Guest Author.  Occasionally, when the weather permits, we have Outdoor Storytime at the Onalsaka Heritage House next door to the City building.
To help your children learn to love reading, start early in life.  Set a goal of reading 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.  Give them a gift that will last a lifetime with just 15 minutes a day for about 3 years.  Let us help you provide a wealth of selections to take home and enjoy.

Our Summer Reading Program is an exciting time during the months of June and July at the library.  Register and find out details by visiting the tab to the Left of this article labeled: Summer Reading Program or stop by to ask the staff about ways you can participate with your family.

Programs that may return as volunteers and space become available:

Reading Buddies -- after school with volunteers willing to read along, and help  with homework. Let us know if you would like to volunteer.

Hidden in Plain Sight  Strengthen your detective skills as a parent. Search a 'normal' teen room for clues that might indicate drug or alcohol use. Can you identify them all?  The Hidden in Plain Sight (HIPS) room provides parents with clues from a teen’s bedroom to help them determine whether their child might be experimenting with or using drugs or alcohol. Room décor, hidden compartments, and items to conceal use are located throughout the room. You will have a chance to explore the room, list your findings, ask questions, and get educated on all of the things that can be hidden in plain sight. Please be aware, that this event is for Adults only.  Children are not allowed in the exhibit, but there will be other activities for them to do in the library during this time.   Each session will take about 30 minutes. Sessions are limited to 8 people at one time.  You will need to choose one of the session times: 2:00, 2:40, or 3:20 p.m. We will open up more sessions if these fill up.

Women's Self-Defense Class
Basic skills⚜Awareness of situations⚜Techniques everyone can use⚜Safeguards Always with You.
Free to females, ages 10 & up.  Our Instructor is Barbara Dickens, 9th dan Black Belt Certified Self-Defense Instructor, and Owner, Grand Master White Horse Academy of Martial Arts in Houston. Due to the sensitivity of the material in this class, mothers and their daughters are encouraged to participate together. We also ask that parents consider the delicate nature of this topic when determining whether this class is age-appropriate for their child to attend.

Occasionally we have offered Care Giver's Group,  Women's Self-Defense, Journal Writing classes, Read Across Texas, and Texas Writes Programs.  Ask the librarian on duty about when these might return.
